Maciej Gonek

Maciej Gonek, PhD is a neuropharmacologist serving as the Program Manager for Healing Breakthrough's Research Program. Before coming to Healing Breakthrough, he worked as a fellow in the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington DC, where he served as a Health Policy Analyst and coordinated the agency's efforts to study the long-term outcomes of COVID infection. Prior to joining VA, he earned a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology where he investigated and published papers on the mechanisms of opioid tolerance and how tolerance may be affected by different drugs of abuse and disease states. In the private sector, Maciej worked as a Clinical Research Scientist at Johnson & Johnson where he managed Real-World Evidence studies for FDA-approved medical devices and collaborated with Global Strategic Marketing and Medical Affairs in the development of scientific communication materials.

During his studies and career, Maciej has always been fascinated by the exciting potential of MDMA and related compounds in relieving trauma and suffering of the individual and bringing that to scale to help public health as a whole. In his current position as Deputy Director of Clinical Research Program at Healing Breakthrough, he works to catalyze the the adoption of MDMA-AT for Veterans by supporting VA and community clinic programs.
